Health Education Activities Promote Healthy Habits

Engage your students with fun health education activities. In the TechnoFit course, children become proud members of the TechnoFit Club, taking on the exciting Be Fit Challenge. This enjoyable challenge encourages them to embrace a lifestyle centered around proper nutrition, regular exercise, and overall well-being.

The journey begins with students discovering the benefits of good nutrition and regular physical activity. They then put their newfound knowledge into action by crafting a personalized food guide and fitness poster. As the course progresses, students gear up for a wellness event by planning a menu and sending out invitations. To cap it off, they receive recognition for their commitment to a healthy lifestyle with a well-deserved certificate.

Inspiring Healthy Choices for Elementary Students

TechnoFit lays the foundation for children, ages 7-10 or in Grades 2-5, to understand and embrace a healthy lifestyle. The curriculum includes hands-on activities focusing on nutrition and physical fitness, accompanied by short, enjoyable videos and kid-friendly worksheets. Optional templates add a layer of excitement, allowing learners to categorize foods or track their daily exercise.

Championing Healthy Living

TechnoFit goes beyond individual wellness. Students actively participate in the Be Fit Challenge, encouraging their peers to join them on the journey to a healthier life. They also learn how to leverage Microsoft Publisher to create impactful publications that educate others about the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. While the culminating event is optional, it offers a chance for celebration with fun fitness activities and delicious, nutritious food.

Merging Digital Literacy and Health Education

The program seamlessly blends desktop publishing skills with health education. Beginners learn essential formatting techniques, including text formatting, word art insertion, and image arrangement. With the abundance of tools in Microsoft Publisher, a custom toolbar streamlines the design process for creating membership cards, posters, invitations, and more.

Creating an Enjoyable Learning Experience

TechnoFit equips teachers with comprehensive resources. The Teacher Guide includes well-structured lesson plans, effective teaching strategies, and clear learning objectives aligned with the curriculum. Supporting materials, such as food cards, the Be Fit Calendar, and easy recipes, can be downloaded to enhance the learning experience.

Course

The TechnoFit course has 11 assignments divided into six sessions.

Session 1: Join the TechnoFit Club

Students join the TechnoFit Club (TFC). The TFC’s motto is "Eat Right, Be Fit, Live Well!" To become a member, students learn about being healthy by watching "The Be Fit Challenge" video. Once they are familiar with the importance of diet and exercise, they are awarded a membership card. This card includes their name, pictures, and other vital information that gains them admittance to this elite club.

Session 2: Eat Right!

Students learn about a balanced diet. To help TechnoFit Club members make healthy food choices, students watch the video Eat Right. Afterwards, they create a Be Fit Food Guide, which contains pictures of food items organized under Food Group headings. This guide is a great way to help students make healthy food choices.

Session 3: Be Fit!

Students learn about the importance of exercise. To help TechnoFit Club members "be fit" they make a poster showing all the things they do to stay active. This poster is a great way to show others how to live healthy.

Session 4: Be Fit Challenge Event Menu

Students help to plan an upcoming event. The TechnoFit Club is hosting a Be Fit Challenge Event. All TFC members will be there! Students must plan the kind of food people will eat. They create a healthy menu, being sure to include food from all the Food Groups.

Session 5: You are Invited

Students create an invitation to invite TechnoFit Club members to come to the Be Fit Challenge Event. To start, they view a sample file to get ideas. Afterwards, they plan the content of their own invitation. Microsoft Publisher is then used to create a side-fold card.

Session 6: Eat Right, Be Fit, Live Well!

Students take part in the Be Fit Challenge Event. All TechnoFit Club members who took part in the Be Fit Challenge are to be awarded a certificate in recognition of their efforts to eat right and be fit. To prepare, students make a certificate for themselves or another TechnoFit Club member using Publisher. These awards are then handed out by the teacher to acknowledge each student's healthy lifestyle choices.

Optional Elementary Health Lesson Plans

  • Word Search: Solve the puzzle.
  • Food Servings: Analyze food groups and daily requirements.
  • Be Fit Calendar: Track your fitness activities.
  • Sunday Picnic: Answer questions about an event.
  • Party Time: Make a birthday invitation.
  • Recipes: Healthy recipes are included in the project.

Computer-based Health Education Activities

Primary and elementary students become members of the TechnoFit Club and take the "Be Fit Challenge". This challenge dares participants to eat right, be fit, and live well! To prepare for the task they learn about healthy eating and exercise. Afterwards they design a food guide and fitness poster. They then prepare for the upcoming Be Fit Challenge Event, which is a celebration that includes fun fitness activities and great tasting food. To plan for the event, students design a menu and send invitations. With the event fast approaching, certificates are created for each participant of the Be Fit Challenge to recognize their efforts to be healthy. These are then handed out at the event.

How long does it take to teach a course?

Every course includes a schedule. It lists the time recommended for each assignment. Typically, it takes between 30-60 minutes to complete an assignment depending on the grade level. Based on this time frame, a typical course takes between 360-600 minutes to complete. This is about 6-8 weeks if your students have computer class twice a week. However, if your students have computer class every day, a course can be completed in about 2-3 weeks.

How do I decide which assignments to teach?

You may not have the time to teach an entire TechnoKids course. The good news is that TechnoKids offers flexibility. Many courses can be shortened by omitting assignments or lengthened by including skill reviews and extension activities. You can easily adapt the course to suit your schedule. Refer to the Ideas for Implementation section in the teacher guide for suggestions.

Does the course integrate into other subjects?

TechnoKids courses are inter-disciplinary. This means the lesson plans blend computing skills with general content areas such as language arts, geography, or business studies. If you do not have a dedicated digital literacy class, refer to the Technology Integration Suggestions section in each teacher guide for ideas on how you can include the course in other subject areas.

Is the course a subscription?

Yes. When you purchase a course, you have access to the instructional materials for 12 months. After that time, should you want to continue, you will need to renew the subscription.

Is the course online?

Yes. You must sign into TechnoHub to access the course content from your bookshelf. The teacher guide and student workbook for a course are available online only. However, resources such as assessment tools, handouts, course slides, templates, and samples are downloadable.
